| Why should I record onto a MiniDisc instead of a Cassette tape? |
| Unlike cassettes, MiniDiscs or MDs allow you to make digital recordings of your favorite music. With MD you can create your own digital mixes from your CDs. Additionally, there are numerous editing capabilities that allow you to move, erase, combine and title your MDs. Plus, because it’s digital, your recordings will have the same sound quality as your CDs. MD is more durable and smaller than Cassette. You’ll never have to worry about tapes dragging or breaking again.

| No. During playback, approximately 10 seconds of information is stored in a semiconductor memory. In the event the pick up cannot read the information, due to a sharp jolt to the unit, playback continues without interruption as the information stored in memory is output. |

| If I make a mistake recording, do I need to record the entire disc over again? |
| No, with MD you have several options when creating you own recorded MDs. Divide - This allows you to split one track into two tracks. Combine - You may combine any tracks you like into one track. Erase - Tracks may be erased one at a time or all at once. Move - The order of the tracks may be changed. Program move function - This function allows the track numbers to be automatically rearranged in the order specified for playback. |

| Can I make up my own song titles? |
| Sure. With the MDs titling capabilities, you can title your MiniDisc and tracks however you like. Up to 100 characters can be entered for each track name. And up to 1,700 characters can be input on each MD.

| A MiniDisc is about 2.75 inches wide and 2.65 inches in height. The actual disc is stored in a durable, polycarbonate cartridge with an interlock shutter to protect the disc. This eliminates any scratches or damage to the disc. This compact medium is so small, it even fits in your pocket. |

| Yes, because MD has many flexible editing capabilities, several changes can be made to a disc even after the recording is made! |

| TOC or Table of Contents, is the master of information about the track numbers and recording areas that allow the unit to locate musical selections or sounds. This is how the unit may locate a track so quickly. The TOC is stored on a specific area on the MiniDisc (near the center portion of the disc) where recording does not occur. |

| What kinds of MiniDiscs exist? |
| There are two types of MDs. The first is a play back only MD. This type of MiniDisc is used for commercially available prerecorded music. Recording and editing functions are not possible. The second type of MiniDisc is a recordable MD. This is a blank disc on which recordings can be performed. They are available in 60 and 74 minute formats. Plus, recordings can be performed up to a million times. |

| How does MD compare to CD-R? |
| Unlike MDs, CD-Rs are not re-writable. MDs can be recorded and re-recorded up to 1 million times without any sound degradation. MDs also offer additional editing capabilities once the recording is made. Finally, MDs are smaller and less susceptible to damage because the disc is housed in a polycarbonate case. |

| Is the sound quality on MD inferior to CD? |
| MD uses a digital compression technique called ATRAC. ATRAC compresses the data to fit on the smaller MD format. This is achieved by removing all of the inaudible sounds which are masked or above the human hearing threshold. The result is a recording that requires less data storage with very minimal sound quality difference. |

| ATRAC stands for Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding. This eliminates the information in sounds that you cannot hear and compresses the rest of the data so the recording uses about 1/5 of the original sound information. |

| Is there a way to prevent discs from being erased accidentally? |
| Yes. On the side of the MiniDisc is an accidental erase prevention tab that simply slides from left to right and back again. |

| Is there a difference between analog and digital recording? |
| Yes. If it is a digital recording you do not have to set the record level and the recording quality is better. You will need an optical to optical mini cord and the product you are recording from must have digital output. |

| How do I divide tracks on the mini-disc? |
| Play or fast forward the disc to the song or section of the song you want to divide. Press PAUSE. Then press the EDIT button until you see it divide. |

| How long will the battery last? |
| It will last 3.5 hours if you are recording and 5 hours on playback. |
